Other Info:

What is TAG for Youth? A youth triathlon (swim, bike, run) for ages 7 to 14. It will be timed and is USAT sanctioned.

How do I sign up my child? Registration will be open by the end of June. Your child will need a swimsuit and goggles, bike and helmet (required), and running shoes.
When & Where is TAG for Youth? The Gardner Acres Swim Club and surrounding Neighborhood in Gastonia, NC. It is on Sunday September 14, 2014. September is National Childhood
How did TAG for Youth Get Started? Three workout buddies, Heather Adcock, Beth Sherrill and Heather Hodde Nigbor, and their trainer, Shane Redmond of Evolution Personal Training, were inspired by the rapidly growing sport of triathlon. With the popularity exploding across the nation, they asked, Why not Gaston County?
What is the Gaston County Medical Society Alliance and why are they involved? The GCMSA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that among other things, unites physicians and their families in community service. You may know them from the construction of the Martha Rivers Playground, The Doctors vs. Lawyers Basketball fundraiser for school nurses, or the annual Doctor’s Day Bodies, Bellies & Brains: A Child’s Health Fair at the Schiele Museum. Many physician families are active in organizing and executing the event. The GCMSA received a grant from the Community Foundation of Gaston County to train 50 local need-based athletes and cover their registration fees. Any proceeds from TAG for Youth 2014 will go into a scholarship fund for future triathlon scholarships.
How do the scholarships work? Fifty (50) children ages 7 to 14 will be trained and outfitted through the Gaston County YMCA summer program. These children have been prescreened by the Gaston County YMCA and meet the threshold for need.
Vision for the Future? The hope is that TAG will continue inspire health and wellness in our community but also grow into a USAT qualifying event, attracting competitors from across the nation.

What does “sanctioned” mean and why do I care? The term “sanction” refers to the compliance of a multisport event to USA Triathlon’s safety requirements. Safety plans, course maps, and event details must be submitted for review by experienced USA Triathlon staff. This ensures events are safe and fair competition environments.

USA Triathlon sanctions more than 4,300 events across the country. USA Triathlon not only sanctions triathlons, but also paratriathlons, duathlons, aquathlons, aquabikes, off-road events, winter triathlons, youth races, camps and clinics. *information courtesy of the USAT
We don’t try, we train! If you try and fail, you stop. When you train, you try and try and try some more. All those trys add up to train.
